Understanding BurgerPrints' auto mapping feature
Overview
This article explains how Auto Mapping works and how to set it up for your store.
It is for users who connect stores (Shopify, Etsy, TikTok Shop, WooCommerce, etc.) and manage synced orders in BurgerPrints.
Auto Mapping helps you automatically assign SKU and design files to new orders based on your previous mapping history, reducing repetitive manual work.
To use this feature, your store must be connected and you need at least one successfully paid order to create mapping history.
About Auto Mapping
What is auto mapping?
Auto Mapping is a feature that automatically fills missing SKU and design file information for synced orders.
When an order syncs to BurgerPrints, it requires:
A SKU - the specific product variant (size, color, style)
A design file - the print file that goes on the product
If either is missing, the order stays in Incompleted status.
Auto Mapping solves this by using your past mapping data to fill in missing information automatically.
Mapping data includes:
Manual mapping
Bulk matching
Previous auto mapping
Updates during fulfillment
The system always uses the most recent valid mapped order as the reference.
What you need before auto mapping works
Auto Mapping runs automatically when a new order syncs in and meets all conditions below:
Your store is connected and active

The order is in Incompleted status
The order item is missing SKU or design file
A previous order exists with the same store and matching reference SKU
That order was successfully paid (excluding refunded orders)

System validation before mapping:
SKU is valid
Design file is valid
SKU is in stock
If no valid mapping history exists, the order remains Incompleted and requires manual mapping. This ensures the system only learns from orders that went through production successfully, not cancelled or problematic ones.
SKU mapping vs. design mapping
Auto Mapping always maps SKUs automatically. Design files depend on your store settings.
Enable design mapping: system maps SKU and design file
Disable design mapping: system maps SKU only
Note: The system copies the design file from your most recent paid order.
What if you sell both types of products?
Some stores sell both standard and personalized products. For example, the same T-shirt template but with a different name printed for each order.
There is no single correct setting. Choose based on how your orders typically work.
If most orders use the same design file:
Enable design mapping
Update the design file only for orders that require customization before payment
If most orders use different design files:
Disable design mapping
The system still maps SKU automatically
Upload the design file for each order
How to decide:
Choose the option that reduces the most manual work in your workflow.
Important:
If you enable design mapping, the system copies the design file from the most recent mapped order.
If you change the design in your store, you still need to update the design manually in the order when needed.
Note: You can update this setting anytime from Stores. Changes do not affect orders that are already mapped.
How auto mapping works
When a new order syncs:
The system checks if the order is Incompleted and missing SKU or design
The system checks mapping history for the same store and reference SKU
If a valid record exists, Auto Mapping applies
If not, the order stays Incompleted for manual mapping
What happens after auto mapping
After Auto Mapping runs:
The system assigns:
SKU only, or
SKU + design file (based on your setting)
Order status updates:
Fully mapped → Unpaid
Still missing data → remains Incompleted
A timeline entry appears in order details:
Order auto-mapped SKU [short code] referenced from Order [ID]
Or with design file if applied
The mapping data is saved for future orders after the order is successfully paid
Auto Mapping with Auto Fulfillment
If you enable both Auto Mapping and Auto Fulfillment, orders can move forward automatically without manual action.

When a new order syncs:
Auto Mapping fills in SKU and (optionally) design file
If the order has all required information, status changes to Unpaid
If auto fulfillment is enabled and the order is paid, the order moves to the next production stage automatically
Important:
This only works if all required information is correctly mapped
If design mapping is enabled, the system uses the design from the most recent mapped order
For personalized products, review the design before payment to avoid incorrect production
How To Set Up Auto Mapping
Step 1: Go to Stores on your Dashboard.

Step 2: Find your connected store, then click the Auto Mapping Setting icon next to it.

Step 3: In the popup, choose your design mapping preference.
Check Apply design from mapping history to map both SKU and design file automatically
Leave it unchecked to map SKU only

Step 4: Click Save. A confirmation message appears on your screen.

Tips and Best Practices
Edit before you pay. Auto-mapped orders are not locked. Go to Orders, open the order, and update the SKU or design file before paying.
Editing does not change your history. Changes you make before paying only apply to that order. Your mapping history updates only when an order is paid.
Each store has its own setting. If you run multiple stores selling the same product, set up Auto Mapping separately for each store.
Keep your design files active. If a design file is deleted, Auto Mapping fails and the order stays Incompleted.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my order still Incompleted after auto mapping? This happens when there is no mapping history yet, the SKU is out of stock, or the design file has been deleted. Open the order and fill in the missing information manually.
Does my first order ever auto-map? No. The first order for any product always requires manual mapping. After you pay that order, it becomes the mapping history for all future orders with the same product.
Can I use the same mapping history across multiple stores? No. Mapping history is store-specific. An order from your Etsy store does not apply to your Shopify store, even if the product is the same.
What if the fulfillment facility changes my SKU or design file during production? The system saves those changes automatically. Future orders use the updated information as the new mapping reference.
